Semester Goals

My three goals for the semester:

1. I want to be exempt from all my exams at the end of the year.  This will require a lot of work because I have had a hard time in English this year.  I will work harder on the vocab quizzes because they bring my grade down.  Most of my other classes have been easy so I am hoping that I will be able to continue getting good grades.  I will study and work hard to be exempt.

2. I want to have my devotions every day and have a better relationship with God.  I will try to make a set time to have my devotions every day.  I  need to actually think about having them and, actually think about what I have read so that I can get something out of my reading.  I want to be able to apply something that I learned to my day and be able to think about it throughout the day.  I have started this year strong and hope that I will continue to do my devotions everyday.

3. My last goal is to be a better representation of Christ in all that I do.  I will start in school by standing up for what is right.  On the soccer field and basketball court, I will have a better attitude.  I can be a hot head on all playing fields and need to work on that  This will be a very hard task, but if I can accomplish goal number two this goal will be mush easier.

The Synoptics

The first three gospels are referred to as the Synoptic Gospels because of their similar structure and stories.  Although these stories are similar, they are different in many ways.  Matthew, Mark, and Luke are similar because of the death and resurrection of Christ.  This is the biggest and most important similarity between the three books.  Secondly, all three books have the story of Jesus being baptized, and the ministry of John leading up to His coming.  Another very important similarity in all three stories is Peter’s declaration of Jesus as the Messiah.   There are many other minor similarities that are in all three such as the death of John the Baptist, the triumphal entry, and the transfiguration of Jesus.  From all these similarities a person might ask why all three gospels would be placed in the Bible.  Well, Matthew, Mark, and Luke are also very different from each other.  Two of the books take place in the area of Palestine where one of them takes place more specifically in the region near the Sea of Galilee.  Matthew and Luke both contain the genealogies of Christ, but Mark does not.  They all had different authors that all wrote from a different perspective.  The books have many differences and similarities.

It Really was A Big Bang

Darkness.  Darkness was all.  The Earth did not even exist, but God was there.  God the creator was the only thing that was in the darkness.  God created everything with simply his words.  People talk of a big bang an explosion of energy that created the world.  Most Christian would belittle the idea of a big bang.  They are wrong.  When God created it was the biggest bang in all eternity.  There was an explosion of light at God’s word.  He created light, and from the light he made life.  God created everything.  He created the sun, moon, and stars.  He created the world, and everything in it and on it.  Everything he created had a purpose and all of it was good.  Then God took the time to created man in his own image, with his own hands.  God made man and woman together so that they may live together and would be over all the Earth.  He put them in a garden and supplied all of their needs.  Man lived in harmony with God and walked with him daily.  God created everything and made it all good.

God's Story and My Life

Scripture is a very important part of any Christian’s life.  We must look into the word every day so that we can learn about God and the way he wants us to live your lives.  When we have a good understanding of His word and what He wants us to do in our lives we have a different perspective of how we are to live out our lives.  We should have a Christian world view and stand up for things that are wrong.  We know that Christ died for us and because of this we should want to do the right thing.  We should stand out in society and people should see a difference in us because we have different values than other people.  We see creation differently and we view Christ as the savior and not just a prophet.  Understanding scripture is a very important part of our daily lives.

A love like no other

God’s love cannot be explained.  Our human minds are not large enough to grasp the concept of his love.  Every gift we have, everything we own, and all the blessings in our life are all God pouring out his love on us!  1 John 4:7-8 says “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.  Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does know God, because God is love.”  God is love!  We cannot be with God if we do not love.  I think people forget that if we do not love other people and do not care about them we are not with God.  Another way of saying it is you cannot be a Christian if you do not love!  God is so full of love that if we are Christians, like we say we are, it is impossible for us not to love others!  We hear all the time that God loves us, but do we ever actually think about it.  The entire New Testament is about how much God loves us.  Jesus did not have to die.  He could have said we were too unfaithful and did not deserve it because we did not deserve it!  Jesus had no reason to come save us, but he did out of love!  Even though we are tarnished and dirty he will always love us.  I think we should all spend more time thinking about God’s love because it really is a wonderful thing.
